Detailed Information
BOTH NITROGEN AND SULFUR, BOOST PHOSPHORUS UPTAKE
It has a white, large-crystal structure and dissolves completely in water. Because it resembles powdered sugar, farmers also call it “sugar fertilizer”. It contains approximately 24% sulfur (S) by mass. This sulfur is used by the plant as a nutrient and also helps improve neutral and alkaline soils.
Since its nitrogen is in ammonium form, it is not leached from the soil and remains effective for a long time. The sulfur in sulfate form is sufficient to fully meet the plants' needs. Because it acidifies the medium when it dissolves in the soil, it increases the uptake of micronutrients in calcareous, high-pH soils.
Because this fertilizer is itself acidic in character, it can be used safely in neutral and alkaline, that is, calcareous soils. Ammonium sulfate, which contains 21% nitrogen, can cause acidification if used for a long time in acidic soils. If this fertilizer is used heavily and for a long time in acidic soils, it causes further acidification of the soil and makes it unproductive. For this reason, calcium ammonium nitrate should be used instead of ammonium sulfate.
