Detailed Information
Urea, one of the most basic fertilizers for soil, is very rich in nitrogen. Its formula is CO(NH2)2 - 46% N (nitrogen). Although it dissolves quickly in water, the nitrogen it contains is in the NH2 form, so plants cannot take it up immediately. For the nitrogen to become available, enzymatic bacteria in the soil must first convert it into ammonium (NH4) nitrogen.
It can be used as a base and top-dressing fertilizer on all crops. It can be applied before sowing, together with sowing, below or above the soil surface. If it is to be broadcast on the soil surface, irrigation and air temperature must be taken into account. High temperatures can cause the fertilizer to evaporate and result in nitrogen loss.
